The mist swirled around the lake as the sun slowly sank beneath the waves. Toby Kinkleburg shivered. He should have listened to his mom, but he had left anyways. The beach would soon be cold, but THEY had told him to come here tonight. THEY had contacted him, and since he had nothing else to do, he decided to listen.

Hours passed, and Toby began to feel sleepy. Just as he was about to nod off, the wind picked up. Toby looked up. THEY were here.

“Here IT is. Make sure the OTHERS don’t find ‘em,” THEY said. Toby grimaced. He knew who the OTHERS were. They would be coming soon. “Don’t forget,” THEY said, “Nobody knows about the OTHERS, only you. Keep IT a safe.” Then, THEY left.

Toby went home. He knew better then to tell his mom who THEY were. She’d never believe him, she never did. He hoped he would be able to do this. He walked up to his room, hid IT, and then went to bed.

The next morning, Toby woke up to the sounds of the street, his mom cooking, and ... a loud screech! THEY must have left a time portal open. The OTHERS had found him! He quickly checked up on IT. IT was still there. He picked IT up and put IT in his backpack-parachute. He sneaked out the back window.

SCREECH!!! Toby looked up. Above him was one of the OTHERS. It was diving towards him... and IT! He ran as quickly as he could, but he could not outrun one of the OTHERS. Its beak opened, delivering yet another deafening screech.

“Mommy, lookit! Pterodactyls are chasing that boy! Mommy, look! There a dinosaur!” Toby ran past the terrified little boy, determined to get to his safe spot, where he had hooked up a force field earlier. He was tiring, and he hoped that his force field was strong enough to hold back the OTHERS. He put on a burst of speed.

Suddenly, he felt a sharp tug at his back, and he was lifted into the air. There, two OTHERS were circling above the city. Toby clutched his backpack to his body. THEY had made him promise that he would defend IT with his life.

“Put me down! Let me go! I’ll never give IT to you!!!” Toby screamed, “Just leave me alone or THEY will get you!” They just screeched, for this foolhardy boy was the only one that stood in between IT and them. He would not last that long.

Toby pulled IT out. “This is what you want, isn’t it? Well, go fetch!” At that, he dropped IT. The OTHERS dropped him and dove after it. Toby fell towards the city, and as he neared the skyscrapers, he pulled on the rip chord attached to his backpack. He was safe, and so was IT. He was glad he dropped the decoy. He held IT out, examining it for any damage. The OTHERS had been fooled, just like THEY said the OTHERS would be.

He reached his safe zone, and found that THEY were there. THEY had a letter opener. “It’s finally time to open IT,” they said, handing the knife to him, “Open it!”

He sliced the envelope open. Inside he found a membership card, which stated that he was now a fully-fledged member of THEY: The Hidden Espionage: Young division.

     “Now, for your next mission...”
This is old fart. It's from, like Last year!
Last year was the year of :eyepopping:'OZMG!!! there's a writing site for kids online!! submit yon writing and see how good it is!' It's a cool place, it really is. Only thing is, da is cooler!!!! and I hit writer's block in my novel writing career... i haven't added to my manuscript since summertime... :O

Anyways, this was written for some contest where I coulda won something cool (don't remember what), 'cept I didn't win... Not fair! It was of those 'under-600-words' contests, where i had to write a story to answer why there were pterodatyls (sp?) flying over some big city...
